Episode 4 - Serve the Unserved, Reach the Unreached with Tinuade Oguntuyi, Information Connectivity Solutions Limited, GM Technical

One of the great promises made by the digital revolution is fair and equal access to the splendour of the internet. But for much of the world, that promise remains a dream. Less than 70% of our global population has regular access to the web – and so the internet is still a net. Just how much unrealised potential continues to slip through its holes? For Tinuade Oguntuyi, that question is a personal one. Growing up in an underserved community in Nigeria, she had to fight every step of the way for a role in the technological revolution that was changing the world around her. And now that she’s claimed one – she’s doing everything in her power to close the holes in the net, and help others harness the opportunity of new technology. As the General Manager at Nigerian broadband provider Information Connectivity Solutions Ltd, Tinuade works tirelessly to connect unreached pockets of her home country. As an advisory Board Member at the Women's Technology Empowerment Centre, she is determined to create new pathways for girls who share her passion for tech. And as the co-founder of the TinuAdeniyi Tech Foundation – she works to empower marginalised and minority groups through STEM education. Across all those roles, she is driven by the desire to leave her industry in a better place than she found it. In this lively, inspiring conversation, Tinuade shares the origin of all that grit and determination – and reflects on her superpower: learning to thrive and flourish in the most hostile of environments. Episode 3 - Respect the Question with Hande Asik, Group Director of Communications and Strategy, VEON

What do investigative journalists and the world’s most impactful leaders have in common? Take a look at the trajectory of Hande Asik, Group Head of Strategy and Comms at VEON, and you’ll begin to understand: it’s all about asking the right questions. After graduating with a degree in political science, Hande Asik spent the first decade of her career as a broadcast journalist in her native Türkiye, reporting on the invisible currents of power and influence that affected the lives of everyday people. Then, 12 years ago, she made a dramatic pivot: she left news behind, and plunged into the world of technology and communication. In that space, she climbed rapidly, first at Turkcell, and then at the multinational telecom giant VEON, where she currently serves as Head of Strategy and Communications. From the outside, it looks like a wild left turn, and yet if you ask Hande the secret to her meteoric rise in her second career, she’ll tell you that it’s because she never really stopped being a journalist. That same instinct for asking the right questions and truly listening to the answers is what has allowed her to make such an impact with VEON’s 160 million customers. There, Hande has taken up some righteous causes: language equality in the sphere of AI; digital access and literacy in remote regions; the inheritance rights of women in Pakistan. The through-line that connects it all is her unfailing curiosity for the stories that aren’t yet being told.  Here, Hande Asik tells June Sarpong a remarkable story of reinvention, on the one hand, and staying true to yourself, on the other. In navigating that balance, Hande provides an exciting template for anyone with the ambition to make a difference. Episode 2 - The Ingredients of Understanding with Duncan Clark, Head of Europe, Canva

If information is capital, and knowledge is power, then what does that make data? For the people who devote their lives to parsing it, it is nothing less than the raw material that creates understanding – making it the most valuable resource imaginable. And yet for so much of the world, data remains an obscure and remote thing: the currency of corporations and scientists; not everyday people. Duncan Clark has made it his mission to change that. As a data journalist at The Guardian, it was Duncan Clark’s job to divine the stories hidden inside massive sets of data, and present them to the world in a manner that could be understood. The fundamental difficulty of that simple intention is what led him to create his first company, Flourish – a visual storytelling platform that made data presentable and understandable. That work caught the attention of the disruptive design suite Canva, who acquired Flourish in 2022, and have since named Duncan Clark their Head of Europe. Canva already reaches nearly 200 million users a month – and has achieved a valuation of 2.5 billion dollars. But for Duncan Clark, this is about more than the growth of a company; it’s about democratising the raw power of data, and ensuring that everyone the world over has all of the “ingredients of understanding” at their fingertips. In this inspiring conversation, we see how Duncan Clark kept that mission at the forefront of his mind, as he made his incredible leap from journalism to entrepreneurship and beyond. Episode 1 - The Constant Journey with Rika Nakazawa, Chief of Commercial Innovation, NTT

It used to be that a good career meant 40 years of showing up to the same job, day after day, before collecting your gold watch and retiring. Those days are no more. Consider the incredible trajectory of Rika Nakazawa – a leader who has made constant growth her mantra, and evolution her MO. After growing up in Japan, and graduating from Princeton, she spent time with a roll-call of the most impactful corporations of the budding 21st Century (Accenture, Nvidia, Sony) before taking on her current role as Chief of Commercial Innovation at the Japanese telecom giant, NTT.  In Rika’s case, that title is more than just a buzzword: innovation is the central pillar of her world, and it runs through everything she does. Rika is also an author – her best-selling book, Dear Chairwoman, collects the testimonies of some of the most powerful women working at board level today – and an influential seed investor. For all that striving, she was rewarded last year with a spot on Forbes’ 5050 Innovation List. In this far-ranging conversation, Rika brings us step by step through her remarkable journey. We see how a childhood spent moving between two distinct cultures prepared her for a lifetime of adaptation at the heart of an always-shifting industry. Somewhere along the way, she arrived at the inspiring ethos that still guides her today. Who cares about a gold watch anyway?
